General Questions

How can I tell if my buddies are online?
There will be a symbol next to their user name that indicates they are online.  If there is no symbol, that means they are currently offline.   

Is there a way to report a suspicious person?
All suspicious users can be reported by clicking on the contact us page at the bottom of the website.  We will look into the situation and make sure the people that are causing trouble get the proper discipline.   

Do I need to download any extra software for this site?
No, there are no extra downloads you need to use our website other than just making sure you have Adobe Flash Player installed to view movies or slideshows. 

Do I have to pay to use this site?
No, BitVillage is completely free to use. 

My Account

How do I view updates?
All users can view updates from friends by looking at the recent broadcasts section at the top of the home page, or by viewing streaming updates on their message board.  

Can I upload files, movies?
The message boards, as well as all the forums are designed to upload any files or videos that may be used to join into the discussion.  After clicking on the group, you go to the options tab, and click on upload group photo.  From there, you have the option to upload any picture from your desktop onto our website.   As soon as the file is uploaded, it should quickly become visible on the screen in the group photo section.

How do I add a favorite friend?
Users can add favorite friends by going to their profile page and clicking on add as favorite.  Your request will be sent out to them via email for their approval.  Once they accept, they will show up on your list of favorite friends on your profile page.    

Is there a way to remove my account?
If you feel like this site isn’t what you desired, then you may cancel your account at any time by accessing the contacting us page on the bottom of the screen and requesting that your account be discontinued. 

How do I edit my profile?
Users can edit their own profiles by clicking on the “my account” option on the side of the screen.  You will get to a page that has your name, hobbies, interests, etc.   You can click on those words on the side and it will go to a new page to fill out all the information.    

How do I view the message board?
The message board is located in the profile section where the message board tab is.  It is still under construction at this point.  

Groups

How do I view, create a group?
Users can access all groups by clicking on the groups option on the top bar, and clicking down to where it says, view all.  Users can create groups by going to the “create a group” page in the same section, and filling out the page on the screen for their desired group. 

How do I join a group?
Users can join any group they want on Bitvillage.  Just go to your desired group and at the top of the page, click on join group.  You should be able to get into it instantly.  Once you are in, you can post to the forum, view other members and upload pictures.  

How can I add, change group pictures?
Within each group there are tabs for group options.  You can add photos by going to the group photo tab and uploading pictures for the group off your computer.  You can delete and edit any picture you upload by going to the tab and pressing the edit and delete boxes on the screen. 

Can I edit the group I’m in?
If you are the group administrator you can edit the group name and photos by clicking on the tabs within the group to change the options.  You can change the name, main photo and view who is in the group itself. 

How many people can be in my group?
You can have as many people in your groups that you want.     

How many groups can I create?
There is no limit on the number of rooms you can create on BitVillage.  You are allowed to create any number of groups you wish on any category that makes you passionate. 

How do I delete a group?

Chats

How do I create a chat room?
Go to the AJAX chat option on the top bar and go to the page.  From there you can either choose a room with a pre selected category, or create your own room.  

Chat is down...what do I do?
If, for some reason the chartrooms are down, then try refreshing the page at the top of your browser, and if that fails, then please contact us and we will troubleshoot the problem for you ASAP.

Can I restrict the chat so certain users can be in it?
The number of people in each chat room is capped at a certain number of people in order to make sure everyone gets an equal say.
